What happened
Six clubs travelled to Manhattan Beach for the first edition of the Club Championship North America — from Washington, Ontario, Kansas and Texas. Each tie ran to seven disciplines, five played and two more chosen before a shuttle was struck.
The Falcons beat the Bellevue Guardians 5–2 on the Saturday evening. On Sunday they met them again in the final, and it went the whole distance: three matches to two, decided on the last court. Four ties, four wins, and the first championship in the history of the competition.
Then the hall was cleared and all six clubs came out onto one court together. Lee Chong Wei — three-time Olympic silver medallist, world number one for 349 weeks — put every medal on himself. He went down the line, shook every hand, and he did not hurry.
